Hey fellow humans. Recently, I submitted a piece of writing and got rejected. Yeah, rejection is just part of the process, but it still hurts. But here's the thing: rejection isn't the end of the world. In fact, it's just the beginning of a new lesson in growth.
When I received that rejection letter, I was definitely disappointed. But then I remembered that this is just one step in my writing journey. One rejection doesn't define me as a writer. It just means I need to keep improving and pushing myself to be better.
You know what they say, "it's not failure unless you stop trying." Rejection is just a sign that I'm putting myself out there and trying. So, my advice to all you beginner writers? Don't let rejection get you down. Use it as motivation to keep going and to become a better writer. Every great writer has faced rejection at some point, but they didn't let it stop them from achieving success.
With that in mind, I've gotten straight back to work and written another piece. This time, I decided to tackle the theme of comedy. I've always loved making people laugh and I think it's a great way to bring a smile to someone's face, even if it's just for a moment.
I'm still trying to find my voice as a writer, so I'm casting a wide net. I want to try out different genres, styles, and themes to see what resonates with me and what I enjoy writing the most. It's a journey of self-discovery, but I'm excited to see where it takes me.
Let's embrace rejection and use it as a tool for growth. Keep writing, keep learning, and let's make our writing dreams come true together.
Here’s The Thing
This week’s One Cool Thing is Shakedowners by Justin Woolley
While on a routine shakedown mission aboard the FSC Gallaway, soon to be the pride of the Federation Fleet, Earth is attacked by an unknown alien life-form. With the galaxy in chaos, Captain Iridius B. Franklin finds himself, unqualified, understaffed and completely unprepared, in command of the most advanced starship in the galaxy. I found the story a lot of fun, and with my engineering background, I deeply appreciated the science-based world Justin created.
During the 2022 Supanova in Brisbane, I had the privilege to meet Justin. He was very generous with his time and answered a few of my rookie questions. Not only is he a nice bloke, but a great writer too.
If you’re into Sci-fi with a dash of Comedy or Comedy with a dash of Sci-fi, you can’t go wrong with the Shakedowners
