It's been beautiful weather outside lately, but unfortunately, I've been stuck inside recovering from having my appendix removed. It's been frustrating to have to take it easy and not be able to go out and enjoy the nice weather, but I'm trying to make the most of it.
One silver lining of all this downtime is that I've been able to make some progress on my writing. I've finished a short story that's about 5000 words in length, and I'm hoping to have it edited and polished in the next few days. I've also got a good chunk of work done on my first novel. So far, I've written about 26,000 words and my goal is to have over 60,000. It's my first attempt at a novel, so I'm keeping it simple and using the hero's journey as a template.
It's been a bit of a slow process, but I'm enjoying the challenge and am excited to see where it takes me. I know I have a long way to go, but I'm determined to stick with it and see where my writing journey takes me. Hopefully, I'll be able to share some of my work with you all soon!
In other news, I'm thinking of adding something new to the blog as I'm still finding my footing and trying to figure out what works best. I'm considering starting a "cool thing of the week" or "show and tell" feature where I share something that's caught my attention and why I think it's worth checking out. This could be a song, a book, a movie, a piece of technology, or really anything that I think is cool and worth sharing. I'm excited to share more of my favourite things with you all and hopefully discover some new ones along the way. So, stay tuned for updates and be sure to follow along as I share my journey towards personal growth, healthy habits, and writing science fiction, fantasy, and thrillers.
As for this week's "cool thing," I wanted to share "Jump Around" by House of Pain. I remember the first time I heard this song as a 12-year-old and it completely blew my tiny mind. It still has the same effect on me to this day. There's just something about that infectious beat and catchy chorus that gets me pumped up and ready to tackle the day. It's one of those songs that's just impossible to sit still to, and I always find myself jumping around (pun intended) whenever it comes on.
In addition to the catchy beat and energetic vibe, the lyrics are also really fun and catchy. Who doesn't love singing along to lines like "I came to get down, I came to get down" and "Pack it up, pack it in, let me begin, I came to win"? It's a song that just puts me in a good mood no matter what's going on.
If you haven't heard "Jump Around" by House of Pain before, I highly recommend giving it a listen. It's a classic 90s hip-hop track that never fails to get me pumped up and ready to tackle the day. Whether you're into hip-hop or not, I think it's a song that everyone can appreciate
