Unrequited Love

A literary prompt - Flash Fiction

I hate it when his meetings with government officials run late.

This DC rain is going to ruin all these opulent clothes.

It must be a heated exchange tonight, he’s never normally this late. But it’s nights like this that he likes to vent.

And I have to listen.

I need them to see my point of view.

Yeah, while I’m outside getting soaked.

You won’t believe what such-and-such has been doing.

No, I believe you.

East Germans this, China that. Being the girlfriend of a Presidential Advisor isn’t easy.

I know he loves me. Spoiling me with gifts, expensive dinners, and five-star hotels, it’s just too much. I can’t lose sight of what’s important.

You’d think his wife would have checked his credit card statements at least once in the eighteen months we’ve seen each other.

Finally, here he comes, with a scowl on his stupid, fat face. It’s going to be a long night, time to go to work.

I’m going to catch a cold in this rain, but it could be worse. Apparently, it’s snowing back home in Moscow.
